The Effects of Stress on the Skin and 3 Soothing Self-Care Strategies

Uncategorized

If the past two years have taught us anything, it is that we need to protect ourselves inside-out from the many factors in our environment like stress which can affect the body (and skin) in a big way. Luckily Environ has powerful solutions for all of them.

Let us examine some of the stressors that can affect the look of the skin and 3 ways to start addressing them away today.

We’ll also learn how the Skin EssentiA and the Youth EssentiA are essential systems to compliment your daily self-care skin care routine and to combat daily stress.

Stress

Stress and anxiety plays an important role in our lives. Some stress happens when good things occur like a new job or finding a new love interest. Anxiety may arise, telling us to take action in some way, and this can be helpful. Some stress, however, can harm the body if it happens over a long period of time. This is referred to as chronic stress. Similarly, anxiety when it is not warranted can scare us when we really are not in danger.

–change in sleep patterns
–a change in eating habits (eating either too little or too much)
–forgoing time to exercise or not spending enough time in nature
–too tired to follow a nighttime routine like washing your face at the end of the day
–dehydration of the body system, not drinking enough water in balance with caffeinated or alcoholic beverages

In a way, all of these are directly impacting the look of your skin. We know it’s crucial for the body to get enough sleep, eat a mix of vitamins in our foods like leafy greens, exercise or walk 30 minutes a day, follow a simple and effective skin care routine, and always drink water throughout the day.

In a way, your skincare routine *is* your self-care routine. The habits are one in the same.

Solutions

1)Make a list of things that are essential to your wellbeing and things you can forgo. For the things that are a “must-do,” break them into small pieces throughout the week. Include items that cater to caring for yourself, including a social component, and including a creative/relaxation component, daily. Yes, daily.
-drink water throughout day
-daily skin care routine in AM and PM
-walk 30 minutes
-stretch before bed
-cuddle with my dog/cat
-play piano/read for 15 mins.

2)Identify your “green” and “red” daily routines. It’s important to identify the symptoms of long term stress and identify things we do daily in our current lives that are “green” items (do not cause a lot of stress) or “red” items (cause a lot of stress).

The skin can certainly be affected by these green and red stress items both indirectly and directly.

Example “Green” Items to Do In Balance With Other Tasks
–Facetime call with friend/family on way home from work
–A healthy dinner alone or with loved one
–Favorite podcast, show, or book for 20 minutes
–Stretching before bed
–Quick and effective Environ skin care routine

Example “Red” Items to Say No To
–Event/Party you don’t really want to go to (Just respectfully decline.)
–Sending another email reminder to your forgetful coworker (We can control ourselves, not others.)
–Postponing a large house project for another time (Time for Self > Time for Extraneous Projects!)

It’s okay to say no. It’s okay to be comfortable declining invitations.

Whether it is your job, family dynamics, or social obligations, you have the control to say “no” to things that don’t serve you.

3)Use your list to tweak and customize into a balanced routine. Increase the “green” item time and decrease time spent on “red” items as much as possible. Include in your daily routines small acts of self-care, self-love, friendship, self-parenting, find some new books or podcasts, watch a clip of a funny show, balance your intake of grave news articles, spend 5-10 minutes on a creative outlet like cooking, dancing or music.

In the most busy of weeks, there are small ways that have a big effect on your body and skin. Before you know it, you’re actively living in a way that feels both productive, balanced, and includes a skin care routine that contributes to your self-care.

Youth EssentiA

If you’ve been using Environ for some time, this advanced Environ line should be familiar to you. The Youth EssentiA line from Environ in its regal, iconic blue packaging, is the final step in the Vitamin-A step-up journey.

What is the difference between the Skin EssentiA and Youth EssentiA?

Both are “step-up” systems that increase the amounts of retinyl palmitate, a gentle yet effective form of vitamin A for the skin, in the daily moisturizers and serums, but the Youth EssentiA utilize the most concentrated forms. Essentially you would graduate to the Youth EssentiA serums after using the increasingly vitamin-A enriched Skin EssentiA moisturizers. It is important to gradually increase vitamin A into the skin, so as to not produce adverse side effects like redness, irritation or breakouts.

Like the traditional Skin EssentiA moisturizers and products, the Youth EssentiA products are an advanced version, using similar but concentrated forms of well-researched ingredients. The products serve as superheroes for skin protection and preservation. The Youth EssentiA premium Environ products target the visible signs of aging and give your skin the look of more youthfulness.
